Forest Herbicides: Research and Demonstration V

Dr. Jimmie Yeiser, Professor of Forestry, Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, Nacogdoches, TX, will sponsor a workshop entitled “Forest Herbicides:  Research and Demonstration V” on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, in Room 117 of the Forestry building on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

Who should attend this important workshop?

This workshop will present valuable information and research results to landowners, decision-makers, planners, and applicators of forest herbicides who are particularly interested in the control of yaupon on East Texas pine sites.

Why should I attend this workshop?

Forest landowners, decision-makers, planners, and applicators of forest herbicides are very aware of the severe competition imposed on desirable species by yaupon.  This fast-growing species is difficult to control at best.  On-going developments in herbicides and applications that control yaupon are always welcome in combating this plant pest.  The expert speakers for the workshop will present up-to-date research results and information about controlling that species.

What is the cost of the workshop?

The workshop will cost $50 which will include a catered lunch.  Payment may be made by check made out to the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture on the day of the workshop or by going to the College’s website at www.sfasu.edu/forestry and clicking “Home”.  There will be a registration form at that site.  If you need assistance call Tammy at 936-468-2680.

Will continuing education credits be offered for this workshop?

The workshop has applied for SAF/ACF CEU’s as well as credits from the Texas Department of Agriculture and Oklahoma.  The program has been approved for recertification of Louisiana Commercial Pesticide Applicators holding certification in General Standards (GS), General Forestry Pest Control (2a), and Forest Tree Seed Orchards and Nurseries (2b).  ( Participants must attend the entire conference to receive this recertification credit.)  Forest Herbicides class is 0496712, and is approved for .50 Gen, 3.50 IPM, 1.0 L&R, and 1.00 Drift from the Texas Department of Agriculture.  The Texas Department of Agriculture has approved the workshop 5.5 hours of Continuing Education Credit for Private Pesticide Applicators. The Society of American Foresters has approved the workshop 5.5 hours of Continuing Education Credit for Private Pesticide Applicators.
